Blue & Stripes Flags

A symphony of movement and contrast, tall flags unfurl in a strong, shifting wind, aligning into an invisible spiral. Blue fabric and white-striped triangles ripple in sync with unseen currents, creating an illusion of perpetual motion. The golden poles stand firm, their bold verticality deepening the composition and drawing the eye toward the infinite expanse of a deep blue sky. At the frame’s edge, a walking figure grounds the composition—unaware of the choreography of air, light, and structure. (Place de la Justice, Brussels, May 2024)
The flags are part of a permanent art installation consisting of 89 flags: “Bleus sur jaune” (“Blues over yellow”), 2009, by French artist Daniel Buren.
